Morecambe RAM Installation - 22nd October 2021

The trip to Morecambe on a Friday evening is one which you must be prepared to share the M6 with countless others, all desperately making their way to all points North at the best of times. Add into the mix Blackpool illuminations and Half term holidays for the schools and things just get better!

On Friday 22nd October, my good friend Henry Mayor picked me up from home to take me to his Installation as Commander at Morecambe RAM, and guess what the M6 was busy but at least it wasn’t raining and once we had passed the M55 at Broughton the traffic eased to a much more reasonable level, (we will blame the Illuminations shall we)!

Arriving in Morecambe we were greeted by Alan Gregory, the DC who was obviously relived that the Commander elect had arrived in time. Sadly, the Commander, Neil McGill was unable to attend, but arrangements had been made and it was the Past Commander Nick Baxter who took the chair and in no time at all the meeting was open and the administrative duties were discharged under the expert guidance of the Lodge Scribe, Geoff Bury.

It was now time to instal Henry as Commander and Nick invited the DC Alan to take the chair and do the honours. Alan, clearly relished the opportunity and without hesitation he was soon in the chair and doing the business. And what an excellent job he made of it!

Henry was soon in the chair and appointing his officers. As with most post covidĀ  meetings not all officers were present, but that will give their new Commander something to do at their next meeting, although there are strong rumours that the Lodge will be celebrating their 50th at their regular meeting in February 2022, (the next meeting). So, keep your eyes open for the information appearing on the website. All meetings of Morecambe RAM are great meetings and very enjoyable, so add a 50th into the mix and success is assured.

It wasn’t long before we were retiring to the dinning room were we took part in an extremely pleasant buffet provided by the hall caterer. Morecambe does have a good reputation for nice food at reasonable prices and tonight was no exception.

Following the usual after dinner pleasantries, we were soon back in Henry’s car heading for home, the traffic was much lighter as we headed south, but the Northbound was remarkably busy. It was good to see so many heavy goods vehicles on the move, the economy must be picking up and perhaps there will be fewer gaps on the supermarket shelves!
The members and guest present
A big thank you to you Henry and all the members of Morecambe RAM for another great night out.
If you are interested in joining the RAM, Morecambe RAM meet on the fourth Friday in October, February and April. Their scribe can be contacted via the Provincial office.
